Get On The Bus unites children with their mother or father in prison. Through no fault of their own, children of incarcerated parents also serve a sentence of separation and stigma. Get On The Bus believes that children have the right to see, touch and speak with their parent in prison and creates visiting opportunities that bring children and parents together. By helping to eliminate the barriers to prison visitation, Get On The Bus helps to maintain and strengthen family relationships—a simple and cost-effective intervention that research indicates will improve re-entry outcomes, decrease recidivism and therefore improve the futures of impacted children. Currently, Get On The Bus serves over 1,000 children per year, facilitating visits at eleven state and federal prisons throughout California.
